Salve

ho appena messo lo xorg nuovo, e fin qui ci siamo. Ora però due problemini
· Il mouse non ne vuole sapere di diventare per mancini
· Compiz e beryl danno ancora problemi, il bordo finestre non si nota (anche se questo problema è piuttosto inutile)

Non rispondo in tuo aiuto perché non saprei come aiutarti. Però anche io ho avuto problemi con xorg 7.3 e non volevo aprire un nuovo topic.

Riporto solo un mio consiglio per evitare di ritrovarsi nella stessa situazione mia. Ho aggiornato xorg. Riavvio e ricevo un errore (che adesso non ricordo). Quindi fermo il demone gdm e comincio a lavorare su xorg. Niente, non c'è verso di farlo funzionare. Addirittura hwd mi dice che non è installato xserver... Comunque, non ho voglia di sbattimenti. Tolgo il repo testing, tolgo xorg e lo reinstallo alla versione 7.2. Riconfiguro, poi startx e tutto funziona. Ho gnome 2.20 e xorg 7.2. Riavvio e patapum... il monitor lampeggia senza possibilità di fare niente...


Morale: se avete intenzione di aggiornare xorg, abbiate l'accortezza di togliete gdm come demone finché non sarete sicuri che tutto funzioni. Io per fortuna avevo una copia di sicurezza con damn small linux che uso in casi di emergenza come questo. Sono entrato con DSL e ho tolto gdm da rc.conf, poi dopo ho aggiustato xorg.conf e adesso è tutto ok.

beh, ho risolto decommentando testing e rimettendo xorg vecchio..aspetterò per gnome 2.20

Bhe puoi comunque tenere abilitato il repository testing per gnome 2.20 ma impedire l'aggiornamento del pacchetto xorg inserendolo tra quelli da ignorare al momento dell'update. Lo puoi fare inserendo in pacman.conf la riga IgnorePkg = nome_pacchetto.
Così puoi comunque goderti gnome 2.20 e aspettare che xorg 7.3 diventi più stabile e affidabile. Anche io ho avuto qualche problemino dopo l'aggiornamento, strano comportamento con il file di configurazione xorg.conf poi tutto ha funzionato per fortuna.

sarebbe un idea, ma quali sono esattamente i pacchetti di xorg da escludere?

Bhe direi tutti quelli che tieni installati sulla macchina attualmente sarebbero da escludere.
Penso però che basti escludere quello principale "xorg-server" gli altri dovrebbe portarseli come dipendenze, almeno penso.. Magari però su questo aspetta anche il parere di qualcun'altro un pò più esperto di me sulla cosa, anche se sono fortemente convinto che se il core del server non è aggiornato non dovrebbe aggiornare nemmeno le parti collegate che dipendono da questa nuova versione.
